Five Points Lake Hamilton Cabins in Hot Springs, Arkansas

When we decided to take a mini vacation to Hot Springs, Arkansas, we wanted to stay in a nice little cabin in the woods. After searching several options, we decided on a place called Five Points Lake Hamilton.

Before we even left for our trip, I had called the property in order to confirm our reservation and ask for some additional information. I spoke to a man named Skip who was extremely friendly and pleasant.

Upon arriving at the cabin, we were greeted by Skip, who we later found out is actually the owner of the property. The cabins have been in his family since the 1930’s when his grandfather first built them as fishing cabins. Skip couldn’t have been any more helpful and informative. He took time explaining everything about the cabin, its history, and places of interest in the area. He also informed us that there was a dock on the water for our use and a rowboat as well. It was very apparent that Skip definitely wanted to ensure that we had a good stay at his cabin.

The cabin itself was definitely a throwback to simpler days of yore, which is exactly what we were hoping for. Our cabin was one of the original cabins on the property. As Skip informed us, several others were added later; however, all of them were designed with the same rustic charm with added modern conveniences.

Four rooms made up the interior of the cabin: a living room, kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom. The living room consisted of a futon, a chair, coffee table, a cozy gas fireplace, and a T.V. The kitchen was the area in which the age of the structure could really be seen. A refrigerator with a turquoise interior stood next to a bright red counter top. Although the refrigerator was rusted and discolored, in a way it added to the charm of the place. An old fashioned gas stove and oven sat on the other end of the red counter. The kitchen was stocked with mismatched dishes and a handful of pots and pans, just enough to cook the breakfast items that were stocked in the frig: eggs, milk, orange juice, butter, English muffins, bacon, and breakfast buns.

The large bedroom took up the width of the cabin and was surrounded by windows that looked out onto the water. There were a couple of downsides to this however: the view of the water consisted of a condominium on the other side, and because of all the windows, the bedroom remained quite cold. Because of this, we slept in the living room on the futon in front of the fireplace. To me, this made the stay even cozier!

Although the cabins are set far back in the woods, there is not a lot of individual outdoor space. An outdoor grill is provided; however, there is no outdoor picnic table or fire pit at the cabin. There are tables under the gazebo near the shore of the lake for guests to use.

The cabin we stayed in was situated adjacent to the owner’s home and garbage bins. This wasn’t a huge concern for us since we were out exploring during the day and cozying up to the fireplace at night; however, something that should be noted as it was not quite aesthetically pleasing when entering and leaving the cabin.

Speaking of location, another point that must be made is that, although the cabin is set back in the woods, it is about a two minute drive to a Wal-Mart, a Starbucks, and the downtown area of Hot Springs. We were able to have the best of both worlds- a cozy cabin in the woods and the convenience of restaurants and tourist attractions just a short drive away. Overall, the cabin was just the type of lodging we were looking for while staying in Hot Springs.
