Sumdex Black Digital SLR Camera Notebook Backpack

Although I am not a professional photographer, I do love to take pictures, lots of pictures. Most people nowadays are fine taking out their Iphones or other Smart devices and taking pictures. I, myself however, stick to the tried and true, multi functional, bulky camera with a great zoom function. And I carry this camera everywhere! Because of this, I needed to find a camera bag that would allow me to not only comfortably carry my camera around town and hiking through the woods, basically anywhere my travels take me, I also wanted a bag that I could use as a carryon bag to hold my camera and my travel laptop as well.

After searching and searching online, I found a bag that was seemingly almost perfect, except for the price. I fell in love with the Lowepro bags, but did not want to pay the high price for one. With an upcoming trip just weeks away and my need to get something quickly, I decided I would just try a more inexpensive, generic brand. I stumbled upon a bag, the Sumdex Black Digital SLR Camera/Notebook Backpack, a brand I had never heard of; however, it seemed to have everything I needed and at a much cheaper price tag of $47.99!

I am so glad I opted for this bag! It is everything I wanted in a bag and more. The dimensions of the bag are 17.5” x 11.5” x 6.75”. It has a large zippered pocket at the top of the bag, a side loading laptop pocket that fits up to a 14.1” laptop, and the lower half of the bag is fitted with several padded Velcro dividers that you can change or remove for your camera and accessories. This part of the bag also contains a pouch to hold extra memory cards.

The two shoulder straps are padded and very comfortable as is the lumbar pad. There is a water bottle pocket on the side of the bag as well.

One of the best features of this bag is the ability to access your camera without having to take off your backpack each time. You simply take off your left shoulder strap, unzip the camera pouch, and voila! You have your camera in hand, ready to capture your next great shot.

When I fly, I use this bag for my personal item along with my carryon bag. I put my toiletry bag and my important personal items such as my wallet and sunglasses in the top pocket of the bag; I slide my laptop, some magazines, and my travel notebook in the laptop sleeve, and my camera, charger, extra batteries, and power cord in the bottom portion of the bag. Not only am I able to carry everything with this setup, I can easily access my laptop and my liquids while going through security at the airport. When I’m not going through security, I unload my extra items and scale my bag down to just my camera and my personal items. I then throw in a thin jacket in the laptop sleeve and I’m ready to head out to capture some memories of our trip!

I took this bag for its maiden voyage on a hiking trip in Hot Springs, Arkansas. It was the perfect bag and never got too heavy. I have taken it on every trip since then and likewise, it always fits all of my needs.

The only negative, which is not really a negative except that I just like pretty things, is that it has no pizzazz. It’s simply a plain, boring, grey and black bag. I would have liked some accent color of some sort or a variety of colors to choose from; however, I guess it works out for the best since Chris often carries it around as well and I’m sure he wouldn’t do so if I had purchased a bag that was pink or floral or some combination thereof that I deemed cute and pretty.

Overall, this bag is pretty much the perfect bag. It carries everything I need in a well organized way, I can easily access both my camera and my laptop, it has plenty of divided compartments, and it’s light enough to take hiking the trails or just hiking around a new city! I am so happy I “settled” for the generic brand.
